Matthew Somma, PT, DPT, MTC, CSCS
Matthew Somma, PT, DPT, MTC, CSCS, is a licensed physical therapist with a clinical doctoral degree in physical therapy, and a certified strength and conditioning specialist. He attended the University of New England (UNE) for his undergraduate and graduate studies. He is currently a full-time faculty member at UNE since 2018. Matthew is currently serving a two year term as president for the Maine Chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association. Prior to joining the University of New England, Matthew worked for OA Centers for Orthopaedics where he was the Director of Rehabilitation Services.
Matthew has extensive clinical experience in sports and spine rehabilitation and sport performance. He became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) in 2006 and was a former Strength and Conditioning Specialist in the San Diego Padres Organization. He received his Manual Therapy Certification (MTC) from the University of St Augustine in 2016. His clinical interests include surgical and non-surgical treatment of patients with spinal dysfunction. Matthew is also interested in biomechanical analysis of the overhead athlete, rehabilitation of the shoulder, and rehabilitation of low back dysfunction.
Matthew lives in Portland with his wife Christie and five children Anthony, Abbie, Dominic, Lucas and Liam
